Winter can be an unbelievably long season, can't it? It starts with family gatherings, twinkling lights, nostalgic music, and delicious pastries. Then comes January, and for us that means birthdays for both of our girls and the unveiling of long-worked-on gifts. I feel like I've been on a slide since mid-January, keeping myself busy and spending time with close friends. Now here we are at the end of February, just under two months until our very bittersweet transatlantic flight. I'm not quite ready to write about that yet, so let's just talk about knitting, okay?
Knitting keeps my hands busy and my heart happy and anxiety knitting yields some especially fast results. I feel like I always get the most knitting done between September and April every year. Something about the temperature, I'm sure, but also a need to get through the winter blues. So when my friend Amanda over at Geektastic Fibers asked me to test-knit a new colorway for her brand last month, I jumped at the opportunity. I first knit with Amanda's yarn over the winter holidays with one feverish session on a sockhead hat as we drove to a Christmas Market in Colmar, France (maybe I'll find some time to take pictures of that later! It's my most-worn hat). The colors of her yarn are unbelievably bright and saturated. I actually didn't believe my eyes when I first saw her Etsy shop and had to wait and see the colors in person at our local craft fair. I was not disappointed! So, without further ado, a little yarn montage?
A little ado: This yarn is available through a preorder at Amanda's store. It's called "It's So Fluffy" and is available in several bases, I believe. The pattern I used is Spindrift Shawl by Helen Stewart. Perfect for any lonely skein of fingering weight!
I'm just tickled pink with this little shawl. It's been claimed by my three year old, and nothing makes me happier than seeing her wear it. It's just the right size for her, too! All that isn't to say I won't be stealing it from time to time for my own purposes though, namely bringing some rainbow brightness into my day. I'm sure she won't mind....
